When Bakongo, the Afro-inspired alter ego of UK Funky pioneer Wayne Goodlitt AKA Roska, dropped his 'Grind / Tee Oh Ell' release on Melé's label, Quadrants, last year, it soon caught the ears of Pinkturban label boss Otm Shank. Mesmerised by the sound, Otm commissioned the massive Bakongo remix of his track 'Bounce'. Now, Bakongo returns to the Los Angeles-based label Pinkturban with two dazzlingly pristine Afro club tracks, 'Awe' and 'Bout It', that blur UK/US bass boundaries and showcase Wayne's top-notch production skills. This time, Arabic Square Kufic artwork comes from Red Temple Art. The calligraphy is an extract from a poem by the Sufi mystic Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi, which translates to: 'Rejoice, for he who knows the truth knows that bliss begets bliss'.
